Western Province Duathlon Champs 2009
This past weekend the kids of Songo.info and Cycling4Kayamandi were taken to Wellington for the 2009 Provincial Duathlon Campionships. The race consisted of a 5km run then a 20km cycle followed by a 2,5km run again. Race report below by a very proud Songo Fipaza!!!
I am very proud to let you all know that my kids took part on the WP Champs Duathlon in Wellington on Sunday and the made me happy.
Brett from the WP board arranged 4 road bikes for my top 4 kids to use it on Sunday and that cause 2 camps on the Jag bus to Wellington.
It was the road bike camp and the mountain bikes camp.
It started when one of the kids with the road bikes said to the other ‘I am very sorry guys to let you know that you will only see me on the start today because I will be flying’.
The boys on the mountain bikes said we will show you that it is not about the bike but the person on the bike.
I normally ride away from the kids and watch them when they finish but last Sunday to ride in the middle to see the fire works.
They started with the 5km run that also did very fast than on the bikes.
From run I was very surprised that one of the boys from the mountain bike camp ran next to me all the way to the transition and he changed very fast got into the bike and gone.
The 4 kids on the road bikes also got into the transition changed took the bikes and chased after Sivuyile and he led them all the way to the 12.5km marker and they caught him.
It was a great race and they have showed that they do have the talent as 4 of them were in the top 10 and 1 of them finished 2nd in 16 to 17 years old.
The rest of group did very well as they were competing against their own roadies.
After the race we took our mountain bikes and rode from Wellington to Stellenbosch and that helped to bring the 2 camps into 1 team again.
The distance was 5km run 20km bike and 2.5km run.
On this weekend we are going to Grabouw for anther duathlon race and they will all use their mountain bikes this time.
