Wellington Gravel Travel 2009
Last weekend the some of the Songo.info were out in the wine region of Wellington for the Gravel Travel 2009 race. It was an exciting day for 7 of the boys as they were “upgading” to the 60km route after complaining that the previous races 60km was too short!!

The start had been delayed by 30 min due to the turnout of extra competitors on the morning after they had seen that the rain would not arrive and it would be an awesome day. this gave the boys some extra time to give the bikes a final look through and go through their pre race preparation.

Discussing how the 30km had gone...

Hard day at the office!
Songo’s Race Report:
On Saturday I took 14 kids to Gravel Travel Wellington where 7 did 30km and 7 did the 60km.
They all did very well and loved the route.
I was with the kids that did the 60 km they started very well riding together as the group until 3rd up hill which was just after 10km Siphenathi; Sivuyile; Siyabulela and Sipho they break away from our group.
Most people where pushing their bikes and my kids were on their bike going very strong as if something was pushing them behind.
Ndiphe had a puncture on the 32km point and I helped him to fix it and we try to chase until the 48 Ndiphe say no that is enough for the day.
I try to continue chasing the kids but they were too fast for me as the Epic legs are gone now.
Sivuyile was the 1st place, 2nd Sipho; 3rd Siphenathi and Ndiphe and I we were the last one from the songo team.
On the 30km it was also a beatle between Luzuko,Odwa; Siyabonga and Unathi as all been training hard in the last 2 weeks.
On the 1st place on my boys it was Unathi; 2nd Luzuko Siyabonga and Odwa finishing together.
It is a great honour for me to see the changes in the kids lives through sport.
Odwa has been drinking a lot more espacail on the weekends and I have been trying to pull him and his now changing and becoming more and more resposible.
With the training now and the race on the weekends he does not have time for bad friends and drinking.
Thank you very much to all of you for your support.
We would love to have more people coming to talk and ride with the kids.
