Cape Epic 2009: Stage 2

The 3rd day of the ABSA Cape Epic was another successful one as Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander claimed victory by just over two minutes to last years victors, Team Bulls.
After closing down an initial gap of 4min 30 to Trek-Brentjens team Songo.info attacked hard on the final climb of the day to take the stage win and extend their overall lead.
Meanwhile as Burry and Christoph were finishing the 110km stage, Songo and Ndiphe were only just past water point 1 after suffering 4 punctures. Filling their water bottles and stocking up their jersey pockets with food and extra tubes they were determined to fight on to the end…even with the sweep vehicle on their tail.
It is this very spirit of passion and determination that is being shared in the township of Kayamandi in Stellenbosch, South Africa to give the gift of cycling to aspiring yougsters. Although they were about 20min back at this point they soldiered on with a further 5 punctures to catch 6 teams ahead and finish within 5 minutes of the days cut off time!
